A community photo will be adjusted based on the view - mobile, web, PDF - to fit the appropriate layout.
We recommend an image with landscape orientation (wider than it is tall).
Photos will be centered and cropped for all formats (mobile, web, PDF), please keep your focal point in the center of the photo if possible.
As for file type and resolution, we recommend using a JPEG image that is 2880px wide with an optimization quality of 7 (medium) or 8 (the low end of high). Please note that the maximum file size your photo can be is 4 MB, however, a properly optimized JPEG should be under 1 MB.
To meet your requirements for a photo that is 2880 pixels wide with an optimization quality of 7 or 8, you'll want to consider the following:
-
Dimensions: Your image should be 2880 pixels wide. The height can vary depending on the aspect ratio you want. Common ratios are:
- 16:9 (for landscape): Height = 1620 pixels (2880 x 9/16).
- 4:3 (more traditional): Height = 2160 pixels (2880 x 3/4).
-
File Size: With JPEG optimization at quality settings of 7 or 8, the file size should typically be well under 1 MB. Here are some tips to ensure this:
- Compression: Use an image editor to save the JPEG with the specified quality setting, and monitor the file size.
- Dimensions: Stick to the size mentioned (2880px wide) and adjust the height as needed while maintaining the desired aspect ratio.
- Content: Images with less detail or simpler color schemes often compress better, resulting in smaller file sizes.
-
Final Check: Once you save the image, check the file size. If it exceeds 1 MB, you may need to lower the quality slightly or experiment with different heights or aspect ratios until you achieve the desired size.
Here is a basic template for how images will be displayed in the LiveBy Local Reports and Guides on Google Chrome (Local Content Pages trim the bottom of an image a bit but does not obscure the image in any way) The true dimensions depend on the format. We have web, mobile, and print and all share the same images. The dimensions change based on the width of the browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.)
